We left off discussing the guides of the rod. Now let’s talk about the grip. The grip on a fishing rod is where your hands hold the pole. These can be made with synthetic foam or cork, depending on brands and styles.
Every rod will have something called a seat, which is what holds the reel. If you have a casting rod, you’ll have a trigger reel seat. This type of seat will be able to hold lightweight and compact reels. If you need something for more intense fishing, you’ll get a sturdy seat that the reel will be bolted and screwed to.
There are a few different types of fishing rods that you’ll be able to choose from, but it really comes down to two kinds; Spinning and Casting. These two different types of rods will pair with different reels. A spinning rod will pair with a spinning reel. This type of rod is typically lightweight and long with ring guides. These types of rods are more straightforward and great for beginners.
The Casting Rods are going to pair with a baitcasting reel. The reel for a casting rod will be found on top instead of underneath where a spinning reel would be located. These types of rods are a little more complicated to master, but once you do, you can’t be stopped.
