One fishing outing I remember is the one when I caught Fat Halpert, a 5 lb largemouth bass. Me, my brother, my mom and my dad all went out to Long Lake for a day of fishing. We had caught a few, maybe 7 each. Near the corner where we would turn to head back I cast near a patch of long grass and let my lure sink a little ways. Then dad called me back to turn around, but of course I had gotten snagged at the bottom of the lake, so I started to pull on the line to release the hook and it started to swim away! There was a fish on the line, and the biggest one I’ve seen! I started to reel but it was strong! I finally get it to where I can see it and it is giant! Beautiful blue-green scales, a giant mouth. I pull him to the surface, and he is a monster! I was surprised that my rod hadn’t snapped! The biggest largemouth I’d seen in real life! So we deemed him the most fitting name we could think of, “Fat Halpert”!
