When I got to tryouts I was so nervous. There were so many kids there. But I went onto the field and I just tried my best. That was all I could have done. After the tryouts my dad and I went to the local outdoorsman store to get hunting tags and look at their fishing stuff. They had custom fishing rods, baitcasting and spinning reels.
A few days later my dad and I were watching a show in the basement of our house when he got an email from the soccer club. I made the team! I quickly learned everyone’s names since I knew about half of them from my tournament team. I also learned that the player they had in goal for that scrimmage was my main defender. Since I was the only goalie I played the whole game. And since she was the main defender she played the whole game too. We became good friends pretty quickly.
My new coach was All-American. My goalie coach coached Chicago Fire goalies. I was getting really good coaching and learned so much that winter season. The spring season was my favorite though. I had the same All-American coach but I became friends with my whole team. We had only lost one game that season. But some of the players were leaving to do rec leagues or different clubs. At the last practice we all signed each other’s jerseys because we were due to get different jerseys next season.
It turns out one of the other teams in the club also had a lot of players leaving, including their goalie. So the next season I had to play goalie for my team and the other team. I was technically registered with them because they were my age group but I was playing up an age level with my team because all my friends were on that team.
