There are two basic types of reels that are offered by Castaway that can be put on a rod, but which one is right for you? A baitcaster reel will work well with monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braid line varieties. It is typically used by more advanced fishermen because the technique used is a lot more intricate and requires more finesse than a typical spinner reel. If the technique is not executed correctly the line can easily get knotted. You have to use your thumb to brake and control the reel. The pros for a baitcaster are; durability, light-weight, low profile, can hold a heavier line, can hold more line, stronger drag capabilities and can handle heavier and more powerful fish. But there are also cons to a baitcaster, for instance, they are more expensive, it requires more experience, sudden bunching, and it can be difficult to switch between right and left orientation.

A spinning reel is another great option for reels. It is much easier to use and is more common between young anglers and inexperienced fishermen. It is a high quality reel, the positioning in relation to the rod makes it more balanced, it is ideal for the set and forget method, it is cheaper than a baitcaster and it is easy to switch between right and left orientation. However, It is harder to control than a baitcaster, and it is not meant for reeling in larger fish like salmon or halibut.

So overall either option could be right for you, depending on your experience level, and personal preferences. But either option is still great and the best ones are available from Castaway Rods.
